Lane Frost Chocolate Cake

Alright, today its a recipe post! Lane Frost Chocolate Cake. It’s uhhhhh-mayzing! My dad bought my mom a cook book years ago, and this was in it! We made it just because it was from Elsie Frost, and it turned into a favorite!

Elsie Frost used to make it for Lane when she knew he was coming home. I think that’s just the sweetest thing! When your mom knows you’re coming so she makes you your favorite treat! Mine is sweet tea. But not the syrupy stuff from Mickey Dee’s. It’s the boiled tea bags, a scant cup of sugar, icy cold water in a pitcher, and sitting in the fridge. Goodness, that’s the best part about summer! It tastes like you’re in the south. The Deep south, where the tea flows and they say “Miss” when they hold open a door.

This is a staple in our house. Birthdays, church functions, late night treat  because we’re watching movies! It’s everything! With a thick fudgy frosting. I’m craving a piece right now!

Here’s the recipe! I didn’t include pictures, mostly because I never remember to take them! I’ll make it a priority next time!

Ingredients

2 Cups Sugar
1/2 Cup Cocoa

1 Cup Liquid Shortening (vegetable oil)
2 Eggs
Pinch of Salt
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Cup Sour Milk or Buttermilk (We use sour milk)
1 Cup Hot Water (this is necessary. not cold water.)
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Icing

About 1/2 Stick Margarine, Melted
About 2 1/2 Cups Confectioners’ Sugar
About 3 Tablespoons Cocoa
Milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix sugar, cocoa, shortening, eggs, salt, flour, and buttermilk.
Add water, soda, and vanilla.
Batter will be thin.
Pour into a 9 X 13 inch pan.
Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center
comes out clean.

To make icing, mix margarine, confectioners’ sugar, and cocoa
with enough milk to be creamy.

Spread on cake after cake has completely cooled.

Try it! Let me know how it turns out! What’s your favorite treat that your mom makes? Do you make one for your kids?
